Reading makes me a better writer! (ok not really)

5 years ago I became legally separated. Sadly, I lost all of my books except 1 series. The Cleric Quintet by R. A. Salvatore was all I walked out with. Since then I have been slowly getting my collection back up.

I feel that if you aren’t someone who reads, you probably won’t make a good author. It doesn’t mean you don’t have a great story in you, I just mean you probably couldn’t write it. This is why there are ghost writers and collaborations occurring all the time. Everyone has at least one story in them, you just might need help.

There are a few authors that drew me into the realm of fantasy. I also love mysteries, certain nonfiction and some horror. Because I write fantasy, I’m going to stick with them.

Here are the authors I feel influenced me.

To start, R. A. Salvatore. He’s written a lot! The Dark Elf Trilogy was the first I read, and highly recommend it.

Next, The Deathgate Cycle by Margaret Weiss and Tracy Hickman. I have read many of their collaborations and love them all. Rose of the Prophet Trilogy and the Darksword Trilogy were the first I had read by them.

Raymond E Feist and his world of Midkemia. He has a whole series called the Riftwar Cycle that is still going. Magician: Apprentice and Magician: Master are where you start.

Finally, Terry Brooks. The Sword of Shannara is where you start here although I do love his Landover novels. He has many different books out that you might enjoy.

So go and find yourself a book from one of these authors, you may just enjoy it!!!
